Executive Secretary

Mrs. Jacinta L. Akatsa

Mrs. Jacinta Akatsa holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology; and a Bachelor’s Degree in Education (Science), Catholic University of Eastern Africa. She is a Biology education expert with teaching and training experience spanning over 30 years working in renowned schools such as Precious Blood and Maryhill Girl’s National school. In these schools, she rose from classroom teacher to Chief Principal. She is an author of Biology Course books with Longhorn Publishers.

Currently, she is the Director of the Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA). She provides strategic leadership at CEMASTEA as a Pan African institution whose mandate is continuous professional development of teachers in STEM education with a scope of Kenya and Africa. She is also the Executive Secretary of the Strengthening of Mathematics and Science Education in Africa (SMASE-Africa), where she spearheads the continental programs that supports policy development in the area of mathematics and science education in Africa.

She provides visionary leadership to CEMASTEA as the host institution of continental secretariats namely; SMASE-Africa, ADEA ICQN-MSE and AUC CESA STEM cluster. Mrs. Akatsa has extensive professional qualifications and training, commanding leadership in renowned institutions with her wide experience in the education sector. She is passionate about matters quality education and training with focus on teacher capacity development.
