FAWE’S CONFERENCE ON GIRLS ‘EDUCATION IN AFRICA & 10TH GENERAL ASSEMBLY AND PARTNER’S SIDE MEETING ON STEM EDUCATION IN AFRICA

 

FAWE hosted a Conference on Girls’ education in Africa on 23rd -24th August 2017 at Intercontinental Hotel, Lusaka Zambia. The theme was “Conference on Girls ‘Education in Africa and a side meeting for partners: Towards a Regional Strategy on STEM Education in Africa.” It brought together 500 delegates from 33 countries and approximately 50 partners (Private and Public) for the side meeting on STEM education for girls.


It was organized by UNESCO Eastern Africa and FAWE Regional offices.

The aims of the conference were:

 

  • Provide a forum for young people to engage in policy discourse on gender in education and training,
  • Share evidence-based research knowledge and innovative solutions for achieving gender equality in education in Africa,
  • Identify tested policies and programme interventions to accelerate efforts towards gender equality in education for possible replication in sub-Saharan Africa,
  • Examine strategies for building networks and partnerships for propelling the gender equality agenda for education in Africa
  • Outline FAWE’s strategic direction to guide the 2019-2023 Strategic Plans
